The full game is out, with a $17.99 US launch price through October 1
Police Chief Simulator left its Coming Soon state and launched on Steam on September 17, 2026. The live US storefront lists a $19.99 base price with a 10% introductory discount to $17.99 ending October 1. That is a dated US-store observation; taxes, currencies and regional prices differ, and the temporary discount should not be treated as the permanent price.
Perfect Circle Team calls this the full version rather than an Early Access release. Steam lists one paid base-game package, while the free demo and free prologue remain separate products. No paid edition comparison or launch DLC is displayed on the reviewed base-game page.
| Question | Current answer | Important limit |

The management loop moves cases from registration to examination and execution
The game is played from a first-person perspective, but its central structure is management rather than a sequence of scripted patrol missions. Citizens bring reports to the station; cases are registered, checked, expanded with leads and prepared for action before officers are sent to resolve them. Successful arrests and closed cases add funds that can be reinvested in equipment, staff and station upgrades.
The station grows from a small outpost into a larger complex with more rooms and functions. Reputation also responds to administrative accuracy: official demo guidance says correct paperwork, completed cases and prisoner delivery can raise it, while destroying valid documents or submitting reports with mistakes can reduce it. The store does not publish the final campaign length, case count, failure state or complete upgrade tree.
| Stage | Confirmed activity | Unpublished detail |
|---|---|---|
| Registration | Receive and document civilian reports | Total report types and queue limits |
| Examination | Check information and collect leads | Complete minigame and evidence rules |
| Preparation | Expand a case and ready it for action | All case branches and rejection outcomes |
| Execution | Assign personnel and equipment | Exact success calculations |
| Resolution | Arrests and closed cases earn funds | Payout tables and economy balance |
| Expansion | Add rooms, tools and station capabilities | Full upgrade tree and completion time |
Open-world work includes tickets, inspections, pursuits, arrests and prisoners
Outside the station, the full version adds foot and traffic stops, tickets, personal inspections, police interventions, vehicle pursuits and suspect arrests across Winston Springs. The developer says street infractions are generated dynamically: a red-light crossing or minor collision may remain routine, but an inspection can also uncover a more serious offence.
Arrested suspects can be photographed and registered, held temporarily at the station and transported to the local prison. The official description also frames the wider objective as reducing the Shadow's Gang influence district by district and confronting gang leaders. It does not publish a complete offence list, arrest-procedure scoring model, open-world map size, pursuit frequency or use-of-force rules.
| Activity | What is described | Evidence boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Foot / traffic stops | Tickets, inspections and speed checks | Complete violation list unpublished |
| Dynamic infractions | Random street incidents can escalate | Frequency and escalation odds unknown |
| Pursuits | Criminal chases by foot or vehicle | AI behavior and difficulty not independently tested |
| Arrests | Apprehend and handcuff suspects | Scoring and force rules unpublished |
| Holding cells | Photograph, register and temporarily hold suspects | Capacity and wait-time rules incomplete |
| Prison transport | Deliver prisoners and documentation for rewards | Full payout formula unpublished |
Hire staff, assign station duties and dispatch equipped patrol teams
The personnel system covers Police Officers, Detectives and Office Workers. Candidates are browsed through the HiredIn app, then assigned to station rooms through the Locker Room's Management Board. Official examples place workers at the Reception Desk and Detective Room, allowing the station to process more work as the team grows.
Prepared cases move to the Briefing Room, where the player selects a case, assigns officers and chooses their equipment. Dispatched teams then work in the city, and the Winston Springs map shows their estimated completion and return time. Funds and reputation support better tools, staff and access to more dangerous districts, but complete employee statistics, salaries, equipment modifiers, injury or death rules and dispatch success formulas are not documented.
| System | Player decision | Still needs testing |
|---|---|---|
| Recruitment | Choose candidates in HiredIn | Candidate pool, rerolls and hiring costs |
| Roles | Hire officers, detectives and office workers | Complete role-specific stat model |
| Station assignment | Place staff in named rooms | Shift schedules and automation limits |
| Briefing | Select a prepared case | Case priority and expiry behavior |
| Team setup | Assign officers and equipment | Success percentages and optimal loadouts |
| Field dispatch | Track estimated return time on the map | Failure, injury and interruption rules |
The demo and prologue are separate free products, not the paid full game
Steam currently exposes two free Windows products. Prologue - Early Days is the earlier introduction to the station loop. The later demo expands that foundation into the open world with a larger station-management slice, first interventions and pursuits, arrests and prisoner transport, employee management, progression, a revised economy and more upgrades.
The paid full version broadens Winston Springs with the full set of advertised investigations, field activities, station expansions and management systems. Neither the live product records nor the reviewed launch posts explicitly promise that a prologue or demo save carries into the paid game, so this guide does not infer transfer from Steam Cloud or shared mechanics.
| Product | Price / access | Confirmed boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Prologue - Early Days | Free Windows game | Earlier introduction to station and case systems |
| Police Chief Simulator Demo | Free Windows demo | Expanded station loop plus first open-world interventions and pursuits |
| Paid full version | $17.99 launch offer in the US | Full advertised city, station, staff and case scope |
| Demo vs prologue | Both remain downloadable | Demo is described as the larger, later slice |
| Save transfer | Not promised | Do not assume free-version progress carries into the paid game |
| Multiplayer | Not included | All three current Steam records list single-player only |
Two launch hotfixes target stuck patrols, map controls, sirens and interactions
Perfect Circle Team published two hotfixes shortly after launch. Hotfix 1 addressed patrols failing to return or becoming stuck, an incorrect map layout, the station opening incorrectly after power restoration, and a detective becoming stuck when unable to reach equipment. Hotfix 2 addressed map zoom, some infractions not reacting to police-vehicle sirens and interactions triggering when they should not.
These are developer changelogs, not independent confirmation that every related bug is gone in every save. The rapid patches also make older demo impressions and launch-hour reports especially version-sensitive; any bug or performance advice should name the build and date tested.
| Patch | Published fixes | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Hotfix 1 | Patrol return/stuck states | All dispatch edge cases are resolved |
| Hotfix 1 | Map layout and power-restoration station state | Existing saves cannot encounter related issues |
| Hotfix 1 | Detective pathing to fax machine or shredder | All staff pathfinding is fixed |
| Hotfix 2 | Map zoom in/out | Every input method behaves identically |
| Hotfix 2 | Some siren reactions and unintended interactions | All offence and interaction logic is corrected |
| Current version | Two official hotfix posts reviewed | No independent stability or performance verdict |
The full-game minimum lists a GTX 1060 and 9 GB storage but omits RAM
The current full-game page publishes only a minimum tier: 64-bit Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-3550, GeForce GTX 1060, DirectX 11, 9 GB available storage and a DirectX-compatible sound card. It does not list RAM, an AMD CPU or GPU equivalent, or any recommended specification.
The free demo and prologue records separately list 12 GB RAM and 15 GB storage, but those are different products and should not be silently copied into the paid game's missing fields. None of the reviewed tiers includes a resolution, graphics preset, frame-rate target or Steam Deck result, so real-world performance still requires a named build and hardware test.
| Field | Paid full game | Demo / prologue boundary |
|---|---|---|
| RAM | Not listed | Demo and prologue list 12 GB minimum |
| Storage | 9 GB available | Demo and prologue list 15 GB |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-3550 minimum | Same named minimum CPU |
| GPU | GeForce GTX 1060 minimum | Same named minimum GPU |
| Recommended tier | Not published | Prologue has a separate recommended tier |
| Performance target | Not published | No resolution, preset or frame-rate promise |
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
