How Nightwater's gathering and factory automation work

Nightwater begins with manual gathering on a solitary island. Resource milestones unlock buildings, crafting options, and buffs as technology advances from sticks and stones through the Bronze Age, the Industrial Era, and beyond. Expanding the island reveals new biomes with their own resources and secrets; the official description advertises more than 20 resources and more than 100 buildings, crafts, and buffs in total.

Automation replaces repeated manual work. The developer says players can choose from more than 60 buildings, including farmers, assemblers, and storage units, then connect them with pipes into production chains. Machines can be built without a stated quantity cap, moved, or deconstructed without losing items. The store does not yet publish blueprint costs, production ratios, or the point at which each automation tier unlocks, so this page does not invent an optimal layout.

Five optional minigames, the Lighthouse and four endings

Nightwater includes five optional incremental minigames to play while the factory runs. Each has its own loop, items, upgrades, and progression, but its rewards feed back into the main factory by unlocking buildings, crafts, and buffs. Optional means they are not presented as a requirement to reach the end; it does not mean their rewards are purely cosmetic.

The Lighthouse provides a separate optional mystery. The developer says any player can reach the end without following the story, but finding the truth behind Nightwater and the Lighthouse is required to uncover all four endings and secret areas. This is a structure description rather than a walkthrough, so no puzzle solution or ending outcome is spoiled here.

Windows, Linux, SteamOS and controller status

Windows PC is the only full-game platform currently enabled in Steam's platform flags. macOS is not listed. Steam also lists full controller support and publisher-declared accessibility features including adjustable text size, camera comfort, color alternatives, custom volume controls, adjustable difficulty, no required timed input, and save-anytime support; these declarations are not a hands-on accessibility audit.

Linux needs a more careful answer. The separate Nightwater Demo app currently marks both Windows and Linux as supported, and the full game's product data publishes Ubuntu 18.04/SteamOS 3.0 requirements. However, the full game's Linux platform flag remains off. Until that flag changes or Studio Ashty explicitly confirms the launch build, the safest conclusion is that the Linux demo is available while full-game Linux launch support remains unclear.

Official Nightwater Windows requirements

The Windows minimum lists an i5-3570, 8 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1650, GTX 1050 Ti, RX 470, or RX 570. The recommended tier moves to a Ryzen 5 5600X, i5-12400, or equivalent six-core processor, 12 GB of RAM, and an RTX 2070, RX 5700, or equivalent graphics card. Both tiers list 10 GB of storage.

No resolution, frame-rate, graphics preset, SSD requirement, or Steam Deck performance target is attached to these components. Steam separately publishes Linux guidance of Ubuntu 18.04 or SteamOS 3.0, a Zen 2 processor, 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 1050, and 5 GB of storage, but the full-game platform-flag inconsistency above still applies.
