Minecraft Dungeons II launches September 29 across five platform families
Mojang schedules Minecraft Dungeons II for September 29, 2026 on Windows PC through Steam and the Microsoft/Xbox ecosystem, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The official FAQ confirms that “Minecraft Dungeons II” and “Minecraft Dungeons 2” refer to the same game. Playing the first Dungeons is not required for the sequel.
The current US Steam and Xbox stores list Standard at $29.99 and Deluxe at $49.99. The Xbox version is included with Game Pass on day one and supports Xbox Play Anywhere, which covers one digital Xbox/Microsoft Store purchase across Xbox console and PC; that benefit should not be assumed for Steam, PlayStation or Nintendo purchases. No public downloadable demo or one universal unlock time is listed.
| Platform | Current channel | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Windows PC | Steam and Xbox/Microsoft ecosystem | Play Anywhere applies to the Xbox/Microsoft Store license, not Steam |
| Xbox Series X|S | Xbox Store and Game Pass | No Xbox One version is announced |
| PlayStation 5 | PlayStation | No PS4 version is announced |
| Nintendo Switch | Nintendo | Separate from the Switch 2 version |
| Nintendo Switch 2 | Nintendo | Listed alongside the original Switch |
| Public demo | Not listed | A media preview demo is not a downloadable consumer demo |
The sequel trades isolated missions for interconnected regions
The first Minecraft Dungeons launched missions from a camp table into self-contained levels. Minecraft Dungeons II instead uses large, fixed and interconnected regions with settlements, structures, narrative events, fast-travel hubs and other points of interest. Some caves and ruins can vary between visits, but Mojang does not describe the entire game as procedurally generated or as an open world.
Main quests advance events spanning the familiar Overworld and the new Sift dimension, while side quests provide detours, characters and rewards such as experience or gear. Players can navigate with a world map, fast travel and teleport to a nearby party member. The published material does not yet give a campaign-hour estimate or final quest count.
| System | Official description | Evidence limit |
|---|---|---|
| Regions | Large fixed and interconnected areas | Not officially labeled a fully open-world game |
| Points of interest | Settlements, structures, events and fast-travel hubs | Final region and location counts are not published |
| Variable spaces | Some caves and forgotten ruins can change between visits | Does not mean every area is procedural |
| Quests | Main and side quest categories across the Overworld and Sift | No official total or playtime published |
Twelve combat slots, talismans, rechargeable ammo and deeper enchanting
Minecraft Dungeons II remains classless: builds come from equipment rather than choosing a permanent class. Mojang says combat slots increase from six to twelve. Armor is split into helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots, while three talisman slots add passive bonuses alongside melee, ranged and artifact choices. Items can also roll random effects.
Projectile ammunition is unlimited and recharges over time. Heroes can now jump for exploration, parkour, hidden treasure and aerial attacks in addition to dodge rolling. Enchantment books enter a personal library; the Enchantsmith can apply a chosen enchantment to a selected gear slot, and enchantments can be leveled after application.
| Feature | Minecraft Dungeons II change | What is not claimed |
|---|---|---|
| Combat slots | Expanded from six to twelve | No final item or build count |
| Armor | Four separate armor slots | No fixed class restriction |
| Talismans | Three passive-bonus slots | Final balance is not tested |
| Ranged ammo | Unlimited and automatically recharging | Recharge rates can vary by build or balance |
| Movement | Jumping, jump attacks and parkour join dodge rolling | No platform-specific control test |
| Enchanting | Books unlock reusable choices at the Enchantsmith | Drop rates and upgrade costs are not documented here |
Solo or up to four players, with couch, online and mixed co-op
The full adventure can be played solo or in a party of up to four. Mojang confirms couch co-op, online cross-play and mixed co-op, allowing multiple players on the same console or PC to join additional players online. The Xbox product record separately lists 2–4 player local and online co-op plus cross-platform co-op.
The sequel adds matchmaking for joining other players and party codes for direct connections. These are announced launch features, not a server-quality test. Platform subscriptions, Microsoft account requirements and local controller needs can differ by device, and the first-party articles reviewed here do not provide a complete cross-save matrix.
| Mode | Supported setup | Current limit |
|---|---|---|
| Solo | Full adventure playable alone | Online services may still be needed for some account rewards |
| Couch co-op | Multiple players on one console or PC | Up to four total players |
| Online co-op | Friends can join across supported platforms | Up to four total players |
| Mixed co-op | Local players can join additional players online | Final party still capped at four |
| Matchmaking | Find other heroes looking for a party | Launch population and server quality are unknown |
| Party codes | Connect directly to another game | Cross-save support is not established by this feature |
Standard, Deluxe, pre-order and returning-player rewards
The $49.99 Deluxe Edition includes the base game, four dark-gold hero skins, the Soul Cape, the non-combat Blub pet and DLC 1 and 2 when those add-ons are released. The $29.99 Standard Edition contains the base game. The current pages do not publish release dates or separate values for the two future DLC packs.
Pre-orders receive two hero skins, the Twisted Cape and the Twisted Chicken pet. Mojang says the Twisted Cape can also unlock in Minecraft: Java and Bedrock after the Dungeons II reward is confirmed on the same Microsoft account. A separate Hero Cape reward requires playing the first Minecraft Dungeons and logging into Dungeons II with the same account by December 31, 2026; Game Pass play qualifies, subject to the promotion terms.
| Option | Current price or deadline | Included or required |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | $29.99 | Minecraft Dungeons II base game |
| Deluxe Edition | $49.99 | Base game, Soul Cape, Blub pet, four skins and DLC 1 & 2 when released |
| Pre-order bonus | Pre-order before launch | Two hero skins, Twisted Cape and Twisted Chicken pet |
| Hero Cape | Log into Dungeons II by Dec 31, 2026 | Play Dungeons I and II with the same Microsoft account |
| Game Pass | Available day one | Subscription access; ownership and catalog availability are separate |
Minecraft Dungeons II Windows requirements
Steam currently lists 64-bit Windows 10 version 1703 or newer, 8 GB RAM and a GTX 1050 or RX 560-class dedicated GPU with at least 2 GB VRAM as the minimum. The recommended tier moves to 16 GB RAM and a GTX 1060 or RX 580-class GPU with at least 6 GB VRAM.
The store does not state storage size, SSD requirement, resolution, frame rate or graphics preset for either tier. These are pre-release publisher requirements rather than independent benchmarks, and Xbox's 4K capability label does not convert the Steam recommended list into a guaranteed 4K target.
