Final Fantasy Resonance launches October 22 across PC and current consoles

Square Enix lists October 22, 2026 for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Windows through Steam or Xbox on PC. The US Steam store also shows October 22; Square Enix's Asian and Japanese pages label Steam October 23, reflecting regional timing rather than a separate delayed build. No universal unlock hour has been published for every store.

US Steam currently lists Standard at $49.99 and Digital Deluxe at $59.99. This is a single-player game. PS4, Xbox One, macOS and Linux versions are not announced in the reviewed first-party records.

The free demo contains the entire first chapter and carries progress forward

A free demo is available on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. Steam released its Windows demo app on September 3. It lets players explore the first chapter as it appears in the full game, while applying unspecified level restrictions.

Steam and PlayStation explicitly confirm save transfer into the full game. Treat that as same-platform and matching-version transfer: no first-party source reviewed here promises moving a demo save between Steam, PlayStation, Xbox or the two Switch products. The demo is the best current way to evaluate combat and presentation, but it does not establish final performance or total campaign length.

It rebuilds Brave Exvius's first story arc rather than directly porting the mobile game

Final Fantasy Resonance follows Rain and Lasswell, knights of Grandshelt, in a crystal-centered story involving their companion Fina and the threat of Veritas of the Dark. Square Enix says the project is based on the first story arc of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.

That does not make it a straight mobile port. The publisher describes Resonance as extensively rebuilt into a standalone console-quality RPG with HD-2D presentation and revised systems. Familiar heroes such as Cloud, Tidus, Warrior of Light and Sephiroth appear as Visions or challenges; they are not evidence that their original games' full stories are included.

Turn order, weaknesses and Stagger determine when extra actions open

Battles use turn-based commands and a visible timeline showing upcoming ally and enemy actions through the next turn. Attacking weaknesses drains an enemy's Stagger Gauge; a staggered target loses its scheduled action and takes reduced defense, so timing the break matters as much as raw damage.

A Sweeping Stagger can open an Extra Phase and enable a Vision-specific Resonance attack. Official descriptions confirm damage, area attacks and other added effects, but they do not publish every gauge formula, difficulty modifier or encounter rule.

Visions function as the job-building layer; espers temporarily join the party

Story and character events award Visions, crystallized echoes that can be equipped to unlock abilities through battle. Learned abilities can remain equipped after changing the active Vision when they fit within the cost limit, allowing builds that combine skills from multiple sources.

Vision crystal sanctums also provide echoes of heroes from earlier Final Fantasy games. Espers are a separate system unlocked through the story and side quests: a summoned esper fights beside the party for three turns, then performs a finishing move before leaving.

The adventure uses towns, dungeons, an overworld and optional combat challenges

Official material presents a classic party-RPG loop built around crystals, towns, field exploration, dungeons, chocobos and an airship. The screenshots on this page show a cloud-city path with moogles and an airship crossing a large island map; they are presentation evidence, not proof of a seamless open world.

Named optional activities include the Colosseum, Gilgamesh, the Chamber of Arms with enemies sealed in legendary weapons and an Ultima Weapon confrontation. Square Enix has not supplied a campaign-hour estimate, completion time, encounter rate or complete list of optional bosses.

Digital Deluxe adds items, not story chapters — and Switch versions do not upgrade

The $59.99 US Steam Digital Deluxe bundle includes the $49.99 base game and Magitek & Grimoire Deluxe Pack. Its named additions are a chocobo appearance key, an item unlocking one character's Fel Meteor Limit Burst, a Mastery Ring and consumables. The pack is also sold separately, so buyers should avoid purchasing both the bundle and upgrade.

Nintendo sells separate Switch and Switch 2 products. Nintendo says there is no planned upgrade pack and saves cannot move between those two versions. By contrast, the Xbox listing supports Play Anywhere across Xbox Series and Windows PC. Preorder and early-purchase items have store-specific deadlines, so the checkout page should be treated as final.

Steam supports controller and keyboard play, but requires Windows 11 and Denuvo

Steam lists full controller support, DualSense support, Steam Input, a keyboard-only option, adjustable difficulty, play without timed input, custom volume controls, achievements, trading cards, cloud saves and Family Sharing. These are store flags rather than an independent accessibility audit.

The PC version lists eight interface/subtitle languages: English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Only English and Japanese have full audio. Steam also lists Denuvo Anti-tamper and a third-party EULA; no multiplayer or online requirement is advertised.
